Lactose is the main carbohydrate (sugar) of the milk. When we consume dairy products, lactose should be broken down into galactose and glucose to pass through the small intestine to the bloodstream.

The absence of this body ability is called Lactose Intolerance and is due to the absence or reduced function of the enzyme Lactase.

People experiencing lactose intolerance may suffer from nausea, indigestion, stomach upset, abdominal pain or colic, gas or diarrhea after eating milk or other diary products.

The most common cause of lactose intolerance is hereditary and is due to a mutation in the LCT gene.

What is the process?

If you wish, you can book an appointment so that we can collect your sample in our lab, otherwise you have to take the following steps:

• Select a payment method (Online or Cash on Delivery)
• A kit (free shipping) will be sent to your nearest AKIS Express.
• The kit includes a consent form to be filled by you, 2 DNA collecting swabs and instructions.
• Follow the instructions and place the 2 DNA swabs with the filled consent form inside the returning envelope and send it back to us.
• When your results are ready, you will get them by email or printed together with our suggestions.Then we will book a phone appointment for explanations and support.
